The battery valve is a key safety device in the battery system, mainly used for pressure regulation and safety protection.

Its core functions include pressure relief and explosion prevention, gas management, and environmental isolation. 1、 Pressure relief and explosion prevention: prevent battery thermal runaway and explosion
 

Pressure release mechanism

When the internal air pressure of the battery rises abnormally due to overcharging, short circuit, or thermal runaway, the explosion-proof valve will automatically open when the pressure reaches the preset threshold (such as lithium-ion batteries usually above 16kPa), quickly releasing gas to prevent battery rupture or explosion.
 

For example, the explosion-proof valve of square lithium-ion batteries is usually designed at the top to ensure rapid gas discharge.
 

Thermal runaway protection

When a large amount of heat and gas are generated by chemical reactions inside the battery (such as electrolyte evaporation or oxidative decomposition), the explosion-proof valve reduces the temperature by releasing pressure and blocks the chain reaction.

2、 Gas management and sealing maintenance

Unidirectional exhaust function

The safety valve of valve regulated lead-acid batteries (VRLA) only allows one-way discharge of internal gas, preventing external air from entering and avoiding electrolyte drying or contamination.
After pressure relief, the valve automatically closes to maintain battery sealing.
 

Inert gas control

Some new energy battery valves can be combined with thermal management systems to control the injection of inert gases such as nitrogen to suppress combustion.
